In order to better inform the millions of older Americans represented by LCAO member organizations, a survey questionnaire was developed to solicit the views of presidential candidates from the two major political parties*. The survey addresses six issue areas in which LCAO has been involved historically: health, income security, long-term care, community services, federal rights, and taxes. The survey was written and circulated prior to passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug legislation and the end of the 2003 Session of the 108th Congress. Candidate responses are being published verbatim and are posted as received commencing with the established deadline of December 15, 2003. Responses from some candidates remain pending and are so noted. It is the intention of the LCAO that member organizations, seniors, the public at large, and the press will take note of the policy statements of the candidates in order to better inform themselves and others of the issues. The LCAO thanks all involved in the campaigns of the various candidates for their cooperation in this important effort to inform America’s fastest growing resource: our seniors. *Invited to respond were those Democratic candidates who had been invited to participate in the various pre-primary debates and President Bush, who has already announced his intentions to seek reelection..
